My Stickley Story
"My husband and I had been looking at dining room tables for some time and we just couldn't find one that we loved. Finally a sales woman from a Stickley competitor "sighed" and said,"if you want the best, go to Stickley". We had never heard of Stickly Furniture but went anyway and we have since purchased a dining room set that we love and many other fine pieces. The best part of this story though is, While we were browsing through the store we saw a bookcase identical to the one my father had left for me when he died. We never knew the origin of the piece as it has no distinguished markings. It is a beautifully crafted piece of furniture and thanks to the knowledge of the coporate historian, it is an original and it's finally home. My home, my Stickley."
— Linda H., Story #303
"I bought a new home and needed to furnish it. I didn't want furniture that was just o.k. and cheap looking. I went to Stickley and it was 'I love this furniture'. Solid well made that would outlast me. That was the end of my search. I started with a table and 2 chairs. Moved on to the bookcase by H. Ellis, superb. I am waiting for my next piece. I prefer a half empty house with only stickley then a full house with just ok pieces."
— John M., Story #756
"There is nothing like the feeling of sitting in a chair started by mother nature and finished in pure excellence by the true craftsman of Stickley. The feel and smell of the leather and oak is soothing to the core."
— Joseph S., Story #753
"It started with simply wanting to be comfortable; a chair in which to sit a moment, to read, to rest. The first time I sat in an Eastwood chair I returned to a home I'd never visited before."
— Nick V., Story #741
"When our daughter turned 21 we wanted to give her a gift signifying quality, strength and beauty to mark her entry in an adult life. The small piece we purchased is a focal point in her Boston apartment and a reminder of how she should greet every new day."
— Charles H., Story #729
"No need to live in a castle. When you fill your home with the richness of Stickley furniture, you can't help but feel like royalty!"
— Jeanine S., Story #727
"I was browsing around for a table. I really didn't plan on buying anything that day, but then, I saw a bistro table which wasn't even the one which was suited for the space. It was love at first sight. I was going to work everything else around this piece of artwork, that's how I saw it. I just loved the table and didn't care if it fit or not. I bought it, and never regretted it."
— John M., Story #719
"My husband and I have built our Stickley collection as we have built our marriage. Through time, investment, care and commitment we have created a beautiful marriage that dovetails perfectly; as perfectly as each piece of Stickley furniture that we own."
— Maria C., Story #711
"My home got hit with a 22ft tidal surge from hurricane Katrina and had standing water in the house for 5 weeks. Needless to say, everything was destroyed, except my Stickely hall console. It was upside down under 3ft of ceiling and mud but was in great shape. It was the only thing I was able to salvage from the house and have it in our new house today. What a great piece of craftmanship!"
— Andrea W., Story #470
"When my grandson was born I felt feelings I never knew I had. I wanted to demonstrate my love and emotion in a practical way. I bought him his first Stickley bed and bookcase to store all of his literature. His Stickley would be an everlasting connection to Grandma."
— Lena K., Story #266
"Our Stickley Story Her taste is traditional. Mine is ultra-modern. We came together purchasing an Arts and Crafts style home and both agreed it had to have Stickley furniture. I love the clean and simple lines of our Keeler sofa and Merrick chair. She loved the excellent choice of fabrics. Stickley furniture is defining our home and our new style "together". Our next purchase is an end table and I have a perfect place for a Stickley chair to read in by the fire. Thanks for making well designed high quality furniture. We love it! Mark & Karla"
— Mark Z., Story #421
"We began dating, he gave me a watch, then earings. Then he gave me the Stickley Collector Chest, then the Harvey Ellis Bookcase. He then gave me a diamond, I said yes. Before he said it with diamonds, he said it with Stickley!"
— Brenda R., Story #105
"Mom and Dad's whole house is furnished with Stickley's Traditional collection. Now that Mom has passed and Dad is downsizing, my brother and I are splitting up most of the furniture. It is so hard to decide which pieces to take! I want them all!!!! (Stickley.com) will help me to decide which pieces I need to purchase to complete my house. As Dad says 'you never really own Stickley-you just dust it for future gererations'."
— Roxanna L., Story #240
"Having moved from apartment to apartment, the acquisition of furniture represented stability for me as I approached adulthood. Research acqainted me with the craftsmanship behind the Stickley line of furniture. My purchase of a Morris bow armed recliner began me on my quest for beauty, comfort, and quality. I appreciate the solid construction, the handsomely grained oak wood, and the inherent style of the Mission pieces. In our disposable society I find a measure of reassurance that my Stickley furniture will outlast me and, very likely, my heirs as well."
— John J., Story #379
"I wanted quality. My wife wanted style. I wanted affordable furniture. My wife wanted furniture that was timeless. I wanted pieces that were strong and durable, My wife wanted something our guests would be comfortable in. We found all that we wanted, in Stickley."
— Michael C., Story #189
"My late father was a woodcrafter who taught me to appreciate furniture of high quality and craftsmanship. When I inherited my childhood home, my husband and I wanted to find a piece for the dining room that would turn my parents' house into our home. The minute we saw the beautiful, solid Stickley oak sideboard and inspected each drawer and door, we knew we had finally found the quality and craftsmanship we'd been seeking. I can just hear Dad say, 'Excellent choice.'"
— Leslie O., Story #107
"I purchased my first piece of Stickley furniture in 1972 at a flea market during my college days in Berkeley. It was an original mission oak footstool with a leather cushion, and still had the Stickley sticker on the inside. It was distinctive but timeless, and easily mixed with my eclectic style. That footstool became the first piece in my growing Stickley collection over the years. My house is now filled with Stickley furniture. I have always appreciated the finer things in life. I have Navajo rugs, original art, a few Japanese tansu chests, a Steinway piano and Stickley furniture."
— Gale W., Story #100
"My husband has never taken an interest in decorating. Recently we visited a friend of his who had furnished the living room of his new home entirely with Stickley pieces. My husband spent the day relaxing on the tapestry covered couch and recling in the soft leather chairs. He must have been very impressed. Recently, I decided that our own living room needed to be redecorated and I mentioned this fact to my husband. His response in the past was usually an uninvolved nod of the head. This time his response was more animated. His immediate reply, 'I only want Stickley.'"
— Geri S., Story #83
"When my husband and I were first married, his main hobby was buying and restoring British sports cars. When his interests changed and became more centered on home and family, he realized that the money should be invested in something more solid and lasting. He made the decision to sell his red TVR 3000s convertible, with one stipulation. He wanted to buy a piece of Stickley for our bedroom with a portion of the proceeds. I happily agreed. After pouring over the catalog and several trips to our local Stickley dealer, we selected the nine-drawer Harvey Ellis dresser, which has graced our bedroom since. Now, if I could only convince him to part with his Jaguar and invest in a dining room set!"
— Chantelle S., Story #79
"Living in sublets in Manhattan, I had never had my own lease until recently. When I finally had an apartment to call my own, I discovered Stickley to make it truly a home. I intended to buy just one or two pieces, a dining table and a desk -- but piece by piece, I added bookcases, a recliner, a sofa, a cozy chair for the bedroom, then a bedroom chest, a full length cheval mirror, and a nighttable. I think of Stickley furniture as my expression that I am finally in a place of my own. Someday my Stickley will be heirlooms -- but for now, Stickley is my home."
— Eileen P., Story #61
"A lover of antiques, twenty five years ago I purchased a beautiful 18th century Philadelphia side chair. Someday I hoped to complete the dining room with pieces of equally splendid reproductions. Last year my dream came true. In addition to the other Stickley pieces my grand old chair sits across from your Chippendale ball and claw side and arm chairs. The chairs share the same patina and wonderful workmanship. My Stickley chairs may be the prized antiques of tomorrow."
— Carol H., Story #37
"Stickley furniture has been part of the fabric of my life for as long as I can remember. Years ago after first returning home from college, I recall retreating to the leather, Stickley sofa. On a cold winter's day in Skaneateles, NY, lying in front of a warm fire, an oasis of comfort was found. When I met my husband, we found we had the same birthday and the same Stickley sofa, a bit of luck and lots of wisdom. After that I knew he was the one. On our wedding day, we received a round Stickley table from his grandparents. A gift that we will treasure for a lifetime."
— Christa H., Story #595
"My father was a furniture maker, and I inherited his eye for detail and appreciation for things well made. No other furniture impressed me until I happened upon the Stickley Mission furniture. It was an epiphany; this was the furniture I have wanted. The clean lines represent an esthetic ideal that would make my house a home, the impeccable construction leaving me with a sense of permanence. Today, my four year old plays on my Bow Arm Chairs. I am comforted by the thought that this furniture will one day pass to him, and in doing so, preserve for him a piece of his childhood."
— Robert P., Story #387
"The quality and timeless style associated with Stickley furniture is very appealing. My husband and I consider our collection to be an afforadable treasure for our family to enjoy for generations. In 2001 we purchased our first peice which lead to adding a new piece to our collection every year since. The den which houses our Stickley collection is a warm, inviting space for my husband and two teenagers to enjoy. The hidden compartments add a element of mystical amusement which the children enjoy sharing (with) their friends."
— Patty H., Story #376
"My mother is an architect and bought our stickley chair before I was born, and she always said she had her best ideas while sitting in it. I don't remember one time in my childhood that she was in the living (room) not sitting on the stickley. As I grew up I used to love sitting in it and I would read, which got me to where I am now. I have the stickley now and I am a writer and I write all my stories sitting in it. I guess it was a chair of inspiration for us both."
— Fiona S., Story #242
"Like many of my generation, and unlike my parents', I have struggled to save. However, I have learned that quality costs and craftsmanship is worth the investment. When I walk into the Stickley showroom -- I start mentally planning my savings plan. The pieces I own, I look at daily and know that I made the right decision. It is like a good suit or a cashmere sweater -- the better you buy, the longer it lasts. You need to divide the cost by how many times you will wear that sweater. Stickley furniture is my cashmere -- worth every penny."
— Diana B., Story #362
"When my husband and I became engaged, thoughts of combining our totally different decorating styles, kept me awake many nights. My husband loves high quality cherry wood and his sofa and chairs were my first exposure to the Stickley name. My furnishings were contemporary -- marble and glass tables, formica shelving, leather sofa -- not a stick of wood anywhere (pun intended). We built our dream home and it is truly amazing -- his clean-lined Stickley and my contemporary art blend together beautifully. I said goodbye to my marble, glass and formica and have substituted it for the warmth and beauty of cherry wood. I married into Stickley and couldn't be happier."
— Vicki B., Story #284
"In search of an end table that would look great as well as withstand much use in our family room, I was drawn to Stickley. No veneers or particle board here! Most furniture today will never make it to "antique" status, and who wouldn't love to get that special heirloom piece from a family member to treasure and bring us back in time."
