Round Coffee Tables - Did You Know?

The coffee table (also known as a cocktail table) is actually a descendent of the library table. At the turn of the last century, a library table was an essential part of a room setting. It was a place for popular reading material to be stacked, and a lamp was often set upon it. Many library tables were round, which naturally led to the popularity of round coffee tables in the 1940s.

Stickley's finest example is the 89-407 cocktail table. Based on the 89-411 Library Table, it has the same basic design, including having the arched cross stretchers tenon through the splayed legs, a challenging angle to execute. The tenons are secured with hand-fitted oak keys locking the entire assembly into place.
